The River Ouse is very high, but now slowly falling following Monday's rain. Flooding will continue to affect properties of Freshfield Mill Farm, Freshmill and Millers Cottages on Sloop Lane and Bridge Cottage, Sheffield Park. There will also be extensive water in fields and gardens. Roads at Fletching Mill Bridge and Sharpsbridge will also be affected. No rain is forecast for the next five days, with high pressure predicted to bring settled weather. The river should continue to fall. Flood impacts should ease a little by 17:00 (07/05/2024), but river levels will not return nearer to normal until 11:00 (08/05/2024) on Sloop Lane. River levels near Barcombe might not return to normal until Thursday (09/05/2024). Some roads including Fletching Mill Bridge and Sharpsbridge may become impassable. Please plan to avoid driving through routes vulnerable to flooding suggested in this message. We continue to monitor the levels and forecast. We will update this message by 12:00 on 08/05/2024.

The River Ouse is high and rising. Almost a month's rain (57mm) has been recorded at Ardingly on Monday. From 21:00 (06/05/2024) flood water will affect properties of Freshfield Mill Farm, Freshmill and Millers Cottages on Sloop Lane, and Bridge Cottage, Sheffield Park. As well as extensive water in fields and gardens, roads at Fletching Mill Bridge and Sharpsbridge will also be affected. Rain has now cleared the area, and high pressure, bringing settled and dry weather, is now forecast for the next five days. The river should begin to fall by 04:00 (07/05/2024), near Sloop Lane, but not until midday Tuesday nearer Barcombe. River levels might not return nearer to normal until 11:00 Wednesday (08/05/2024). River levels could end up higher than they have been all winter. Some roads including Fletching Mill Bridge and Sharpsbridge may become impassable. The River Ouse is high and rising. 25mm of rain has been recorded at Ardingly, in only a few hours Thursday. Which is a lot in a short space of time. From 02:00 05/01/2024 flood water will affect properties of Freshfield Mill Farm, Freshmill and Millers Cottages on Sloop Lane and Bridge Cottage, Sheffield Park. Roads at Fletching Mill Bridge and Sharpsbridge will also be affected. A further 5mm of rain is possible through the early hours of Friday. Very little rain is forecast from Friday daytime through to next week. The river should begin to fall by 10:00 05/01/2024, but will be higher than normal until Saturday. Some roads including Fletching Mill Bridge and Sharpsbridge may become impassable, please plan to avoid driving through routes vulnerable to flooding suggested in this message. The River Ouse is high and rising. In the last 48 hours, half a month's rain (50mm) has been recorded at Ardingly. Another 10mm of rain is forecast Wednesday evening. From 23:00 16/11/2022 flood water will affect properties of Freshfield Mill Farm, Freshmill and Millers Cottages on Sloop Lane and Bridge Cottage, Sheffield Park. Roads at Fletching Mill Bridge and Sharpsbridge will be affected and potentially impassable. Rain is expected to clear by 04:00 Thursday 17/11/2022, leaving Thursday and Friday mostly dry. The river should begin to fall by 16:00 17/11/2022, but will be higher than normal until Friday. River levels could end up higher than the peaks of last week. Some roads including Fletching Mill Bridge and Sharpsbridge may become impassable, please plan to avoid driving through routes vulnerable to flooding suggested in this message. River Ouse
River levels between Freshfield Mill Farm and Sharpsbridge have fallen slightly from their peak, but are still very high. Friday and Saturday 7/3/2020 are forecast to be dry. River levels will continue to fall very slowly. But flood impacts affecting properties, gardens and fields will likely continue until Saturday 7/3/2020. Flood water will affect rural roads including Sloop Lane, Fletching Mill Bridge and Sharpsbridge Lane. More rain is predicted Sunday morning and Monday afternoon 9/3/2020. The risk of flooding will increase again, dependant on the amount of rain we receive. Current predictions suggest river levels could return to similar heights seen today 6/3/2020, but probably slightly lower. Please plan to avoid driving through flood prone routes suggested in this message. Remain prepared for the risk of flooding to increase again from Sunday. The River Ouse has been rising steadily in response to 26mm of rainfall today. River levels are predicted to continue rising further this evening, and flooding is expected from 23:00 05/03/2020. Isolated properties including and near to Freshfield Mill Farm, Sharpsbridge, Sheffield Mill Bridge and Fletching Mill Bridge are likely to be affected by flooding as well as gardens, rural roads and nearby fields. Thursday evening and Friday should be relatively dry, so river levels are expected to begin to fall from 11:00 on Friday 06/03/2020, returning to more normal levels by Friday evening. However, further rain is forecast into next week and so levels may rise, and flood risk could return again. Flood protection products are recommended to be installed now, if you have them, to reduce the impact of flooding. We continue to monitor the levels and forecast. The Upper Ouse is rising quickly due to 30mm of rainfall brought by Storm Dennis. A further 10 mm is possible by 15:00 16/02/2020. Property flooding is expected from 12:00 16/02/2020. Water will also affect fields, gardens, and roads. Impacts could be similar to Christmas 2019. Locations could include: Freshfield Mill Farm, Millers Cottage, Freshfield. As well as Bridge Cottage at Sheffield Bridge. Flooding will also affect roads at Fletching Mill Bridge and Sharpsbridge. Rain will ease Sunday afternoon. With only isolated showers through to midweek, river levels should begin to fall by Monday evening 17/02/2020. Please plan to avoid driving through routes vulnerable to flooding. River levels are still high following Saturday’s rain. Flooding impacts will continue. Locations to be affected will include Freshfield Mill Farm and Millers Cottage in Freshfield, and Bridge Cottage at Sheffield Bridge. Flooding will also affect roads at Fletching Mill Bridge and Sharpsbridge. River levels have already peaked, but are now falling at Freshfield Mill. River levels further downstream towards Sharpsbridge should begin to peak and slowly fall by 11:00 22/12/2019. Sunday and Monday should stay largely dry, which should allow river levels to fall towards more normal levels by Monday afternoon 23/12/2019. There remains a possibility of heavy showers on Tuesday 24/12/2019; we'll share more information over the coming days. Some roads described in this message could still be affected by flood water. Following nearly a month’s rainfall over the past week and 20mm Thursday night, river levels are still very high on the River Ouse. Flood impacts will likely continue until Sunday 22/12/2019. Locations to be affected will include Freshfield Mill Farm and Millers Cottage in Freshfield and Bridge Cottage at Sheffield Bridge. Flooding will also affect roads at Fletching Mill Bridge and Sharpsbridge. A small amount of rain in the early hours of Saturday will be followed by more widespread rain between 17:00 Saturday 21/12/2019 and 08:00 Sunday 22/12/2019. While river levels may fall slightly Friday night and Saturday morning, by Sunday (22/12/2019) river levels will return to hights similar to those experienced Friday (20/12/2019), if not higher. Following nearly a month’s rainfall over the past week and 20mm Thursday night, river levels are high and rising on the River Ouse. Flooding is expected from 11:00 20/12/2019. Locations to be affected will include Freshfield Mill Farm and Millers Cottage in Freshfield and Bridge Cottage at Sheffield Bridge. Flooding will also affect roads at Fletching Mill Bridge and Sharpsbridge. The widespread rain should clear from 09:00 20/12/2019, leaving a largely dry day Friday, apart from isolated showers. Widespread rain will return from 15:00 Saturday 21/12/2019. River levels will continue to rise until 03:00 21/12/2019, but further increases should be expected Saturday evening (21/12/2019) following the next band of rain.
